Board Wars

Posted by on September 9, 2010

A family can communicate in a variety of ways.  There’s talking face-to-face, texting, calling, emailing…etc.  Well, my family uses a white eraser board.  It’s magnetized to the fridge and serves as a daily communication spot for various reminders and messages.  Usually, most of what we put is practical, “Watch out for the box in the mail,” or “So and so empty the dishwasher.”  However, once in awhile we get carried away.

It all started when my dad and I returned from vacation to find a weird drawing of a dinosaur and worm-monster (reminds me of Tremors) innocently depicted on the board.  Now, we’ve had board wars before but none have topped our most recent endeavors.  I quickly added my own joke to the board, drawing Ducky Duke of the Stick which has its own story behind it and had nothing to do with the other drawings (yes Ducky your sword really is a stick, but it’s shiny!).  Shortly thereafter, Adam G of the Bullet to the Head was added.   From there, we either gave in to our deeply suppressed but obviously wildly creative sides…or we just sniffed a few too many erasable markers.  Either way, we ended up with  aliens, a giantess, shields from Dune, and man-eating long necks (and no I’m not kidding).  Mom, in case you wondered, this is what we do when you’re not home.

So, that’s our latest board war story and, I must admit, I love those goofy moments.
